LAZY, SLOW and IDLE are working with Messrs DROUSY DAUGHTERS at DULL-LOUSIE. On every working day they lunch together at SLICK SLUMS where they also order beer based on the following premises:
Idle has beer only if either Lazy or Slow or both have it.
Unless neither Lazy nor Slow have beer, Idle must have it.
Slow and idle never have beer together.
If Lazy does not have beer, either Slow or Idle or both have it.
In an isolated island there live two tribes: SACHAS AND JHUTAS. The Sachas always speak the truth whereas the Jhutas never do.
One night, NANCY SINATRA, a stranger in the island, met one tribesman. In a single question she could determine whether he was a Sacha or a Jhuta.
What was her question? (Questions of common knowledge, such as ‘Is today a Sunday’ are not permissible.)
HASLUCK had had no luck at all at the races,. The favorites just did not oblige and she had not had tips enough to back the others. She was rather depressed and was wondering what to do when her eye caught three young, smart and seemingly cultured men chatting away in one corner. She could find a match for her precious daughter, she thought, if anyone amongst them was a bachelor. With that in mind she walked over to them and, after the preliminaries, started discussing weather.
When she finally got to the point of asking whether anyone amongst them was unmarried she did not get a straightforward reply. That is because the young men thought she wanted that information for herself-she looked eligible too, for a second marriage if not the first-and so, although they were all bachelors, each attempted to hide the information, politely of course. Given below is an extract of what each of them said:-
TOM – Unless Dick is married either Harry is not Or I am and I cannot be caught.
DICK – If Harry is married and Tom too be, It cannot be, as I can see.
HARRY-If I am married either Tom too is, Or Dick is not and is yours, Miss. Was it possible for Hasluck to get the information she sought?
